Introduction:

I received my Master of Social Work degree from Aurora University in Aurora, Illinois in May of 2023, where I focused on psychosocial impacts on mental health. As an undergrad, I completed an internship at WINGS domestic violence shelter, where I worked with single women and women with children fleeing violence, providing crisis intervention and therapeutic group interventions. During graduate school, I interned at Havenwyck Hospital, assessing individuals with psychosis, depression, and bipolar disorder, and providing group therapy and case management interventions. From June of 2023 until January of 2024, I worked full-time as a social worker at Havenwyck Hospital, furthering my work with individuals experiencing mental health crises through case management, group therapy, and individual interventions. Since January of 2024, I have moved into individual counseling, working with adolescents and adults to help them process challenges and stressors, and the many difficult emotions that can come with these experiences.

Approach:

My approach is client-centered and includes the use of Motivational Interviewing. Motivational Interviewing is an evidence-based practice that is a partnership between the client and the practitioner, using guided communication to help the client feel empowered to change by drawing their own meaning, importance, and capacity for the changes. Motivational Interviewing uses open questions, affirmations, reflections, and an exchange of information between the practitioner and client, and has the practitioner show support to the client as they explore how to plan and commit to change.
